When art, tradition and culture come together they give life to these extraordinary desserts rich in goodness, passion and history. Desserts based on "pasta reale" of bitter and sweet almond, traditionally prepared in Alcamo for the Festa dei Morti. It owes its name to the Martorana Church of Palermo; the story tells that the nuns, lacking fruits in their garden, created new ones with almond flour and sugar, to embellish the monastery during a papal visit.
Almond paste has been officially recognized and included in the list of Traditional Agri-food Products (PAT in Italy). The birth of almond paste is certainly due to the Arabs who introduced this rich and spicy dish to Sicily, mixing sugar and ground almonds.
